    By popular demand, ALTE is organising an additional session of the ALTE Introductory Course in Language Testing from 23rd until 27th September 2019.

    The course will take place in Cambridge, UK and will be presented by Professor Anthony Green (CRELLA, University of Bedfordshire) and Jane Lloyd (Cambridge Assessment English).

    Our annual European Day of Languages event, which is this year hosted by the Italian senator Michela Montevecchi and Member of Parliament Alessandro  Fusacchia, will be held in Rome on 26th September 2019. The seminar will consider how clear standards and mutual recognition of language qualifications can encourage and support the learning of a wider range of languages, and enhance the educational and professional opportunities of Italians across Europe and beyond. The event is sponsored by Cambridge Assessment English.

    ALTE will run a one-day Introductory Course in Statistics for Language Testing on Wednesday 6th November 2019 at the Faculty of Law, University of  Ljubljana, Poljanski nasip 2, 1000 Ljubljana.

    The course tutor will be Jane Lloyd, ALTE Validation Unit Manager.

    The next ALTE 54th Conference Day will be hosted by the Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and will take place on Friday 8th November 2019. The theme of this conference day is: Monolingual testing in a multilingual reality? Language ideologies and their influence on language testing.

    Plenary speakers include Professor Marko Stabej (University of Ljubljana), Petra Likar Stanovnik (University of Ljubljana), Professor Anne Gallagher (National University of Ireland Maynooth), Graham Seed (Cambridge Assessment English). 

    During the morning there will be a round table with the following title: Language policy makers’ (close) encounters (the case of Slovenia).

    In the afternoon there will also be parallel workshops:

    • Tanja Jerman, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia (Benchmarking workshop in Slovene) ‘SEJO v praksi: naravni govorec kot referenca (Kako umeščamo pisne produkcije na ravni SEJO)’, ‘The CEFR in practice: native speaker as a reference?’;
    • Dr Lorenzo Rocca, CVCL, University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy,  will moderate a follow up workshop on Language policy makers’ (close) encounters (the case of Slovenia);
    • Siân Morgan, Cambridge Assessment English, UK, ‘Success beyond the test: The importance of creating positive impact by design’;
    • Dr Benjamin Kremmel, University of Innsbruck, Austria, ‘Avoiding bias in language test development’.

    Provisional Programme of the Conference

    The first two days of the meetings, Wednesday 6th November and Thursday 7th November, are open only to representatives of ALTE Members and Institutional affiliates.

    The Examination Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language is celebrating its 25th anniversary, therefore the Conference Day will be free of charge and open to all those with an interest in language testing.

    The ALTE Forum on Language Assessment for Migration and Integration (LAMI) will take place on Friday afternoon, after the closure of the main ALTE 7th International Conference. 

    The theme of the LAMI Forum is: 'Mediation: from theoretical concepts to evaluation practices within the migration context'

    Further information about the programme will be available soon.

    Delagates attending the ALTE 7th International Conference are welcome to also attend the LAMI Forum, free of charge, and won't need to register separately in the LAMI forum page.

    If you would like to attend the LAMI Forum only, there is a registration fee of €25.
